CTR below expected for position
A query can rank well yet earn fewer clicks than similar positions on your site. That often means the title or meta description is not compelling—or does not match what searchers expect.
What we look for
We build a site-specific CTR curve from stored Search Console data, derive expected CTR for each query’s average position, and flag rows where actual CTR falls meaningfully below that benchmark (with minimum impression volume).
What to do
Rewrite titles and meta descriptions to match query intent, add proof or differentiation, and check whether branded or rich-result presentation is suppressing clicks. Validate that the landing page delivers what the snippet promises.
Technical details
This complements the older low click-through rate at strong positions check (fixed CTR threshold at positions ≤10). The position-benchmark version is better for site-wide “named report” style reviews. See Search Console data in SEO Perception.
